As a dancer, I experienced a few yoga classes here and there throughout my years of dance training, but I never developed a yoga practice until I was in college.

After trying various styles of yoga, I was naturally drawn to the flowy style of Vinyasa. I loved having another way to move my body using both strength and flexibility, and also feel present and connected to my breath. I ended up working the desk at a Yogaworks studio where I had the benefit of taking classes every single day, sometimes twice a day. It was during that time that I knew yoga had become a significant part of my life.

After moving back to the Chicagoland area, I decided I wanted to become a yoga teacher, and completed my 200 hr. YTT through Yogaworks in Fiji led by senior teacher trainers Alicia Cheung and Oliver Reinsch.

Physical movement has always been my preferred method of expression, and I realized early on that I want to help others use the physical body as a tool to discover mindfulness and presence as they journey towards a more balanced and fulfilled life. If this sounds like something you’re working on, I would be honored to guide you!!

 PRIVATE YOGA

I LOVE private yoga! Here’s a list of some reasons why I think everyone should try a private session at least once. If one (or more) of these sounds like you, scroll down to book a session! I also offer semi-privates! (2-3 people)

  1. You’re a first time/beginner yogi. Have you thought about doing yoga, but feel a little intimidated by the group setting? Maybe you’ve tried a public group class, but had a difficult time keeping up. When it’s just you, I will be able to slow things down and introduce the alignment of poses one at a time, at your own pace. Ask all questions without hesitation!

  2. You’re injured. I will program sequences to help you recover whether you need to strengthen, increase mobility or gain flexibility in a specific area!

  3. You’re an athlete. Private sessions are a perfect way to ensure that you are practicing in a way that specifically compliments the way you move in your sport. I’ve worked with boxers, golfers, football players and more, and I truly believe a regular yoga practice will help athletes build longevity in their career.

  4. You’re in a plateau. Sometimes public yoga classes might not challenge you in the way that you need to continue growing. The purpose of asana (poses) is to use your body as a tool to challenge your mind to find stillness and presence. Once your mind is easily able to wander away while in a pose, that is a sign something needs to change to bring your focus back to the present. If you find yourself reaching a plateau in your practice, private sessions are a perfect way to learn new variations or even just new cues to keep things interesting and help strengthen your mindfulness!

  5. You want more attention. Whether you have a long term goal, or just want to move based on how you feel in the moment, private sessions allow me to guide you through postures specific to your body’s wants and needs. With my eyes only on you, you’ll get the maximum experience of each pose by receiving all the corrections (and all the praise! ).
